The completion of WWTP Poprad-Matejovce was realized within the years 2004 – 2006. The main goal of completion was amaximum utilization of existing objects on site. The realization of whole project was followed according to the FIDIC – “red book” which meant that the Contractor built the project according the project documentation made by the Customer.
The completed WWTP secures treatment of municipal wastewater produced in towns Poprad, Smokovce, Nová Lesná, Mlynica, Štrba, Tatranská Štrba, Lučivná, Veľká Lomnica, Mengusovce, Štôla. The WWTP Poprad – Matejovce is designed as a mechanicalbiological treatment plant with nutrient removal with enhanced biological phosphorus removal. Sludge and gas management includes anaerobic stabilization of sludge and biogas utilization for the energy needs of the plant.
The mechanical treatment consists of a grit trap, coarse screenings, fine rotary screenings, longitudinal aerated grit traps and a primary sedimentation tank. Storm waters are retained in the retention tank after the aerated grid traps and then are relieved to recipient.
The biological treatment consists of four lines of nitrification and denitrification in carrousel type of tanks and enhanced biological removal of phosphorus in the anaerobic tanks. Additional phosphorus removal is ensured by the chemical precipitation with ferric sulfate solution. Return sludge can be regenerated under aerobic or anoxic conditions in the regeneration tank. The air is delivered by rotary blowers in dependency of measured concentration of dissolved oxygen. From secondary clarifier the treated water flows to recipient.
A sludge management consists of two anaerobic stabilization tanks (anaerobic digesters) of under mezophilic conditions, mechanical sludge and dewatering of anaerobically stabilized sludge. The process arrangement of anaerobic stabilization tanks (digesters) in operation could by single-stage (tanks are set in parallel) or as a two-stage (tanks are set in series). The anaerobic stabilization tanks are mixed by pneumatic mixing with produced biogas by rotary compressors or alternatively by hydraulic mixing with a pump..
A biogas produced in anaerobic digesters is accumulated in twomembrane gasholder. These membranes are made of high resistant polyester fabric coated with PVC. The biogas is preferably used as a fuel to produce electricity in cogeneration unit for the needs of plant and created heat is used to heat the sludge in anaerobic stabilization tank. The excess biogas is burned in a gas burner Measurement and control of the main technological processes is ensured by an online measurement of ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, phosphate phosphorus and dissolved oxygen concentration.
The concentration of ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and dissolved oxygen as measured directly in the activated sludge tank. The measurement of phosphate phosphorus is located at the outlet of secondary clarifiers.
