The WWTP Galanta was reconstructed within the project „Basin of the Váh and Dunaj – collection, treatment of waste water and drinking water supply in the region of Galanta“. The project of WWTP Galanta included reconstruction and construction of the new collection systems approx. 110km, 129 pumping stations, the new WWTP Kráľov Brod of size 1200 PE and reconstruction and completion water conduits in the wider surroundings of town Galanta. The realization of whole project was followed according to the FIDIC – Conditions of contract for plant Design and Build (yellow book), i.e. the proposal, design, construction phase and operation guaranties were covered by contractor.
The reconstructed and intensified WWTP Galanta is working as a mechanical – biological treatment plant with anaerobic stabilization of sludge and biogas utilization for the energy needs of the plant. The mechanical treatment is consisting of coarse screenings, a compact mechanical preliminary treatment (fine rotary screenings, aerated grit and grease traps) and a primary sedimentation tank.
The biological treatment is an activated sludge process with removal of nutrients (nitrification and denitrification in activated sludge tanks and enhanced biological phosphorus removal). At the same time the chemical coagulation of phosphorus is installed and methanol dosing for denitrification support. The air is delivered by rotary blowers depending on on-line concentration measurement of dissolved oxygen and ammonium. Tertiary treatment is ensured by a tertiary filter.
A sludge management is formed by anaerobic digestion of sludge under mesophilic conditions, mechanical thickening of excess biological sludge and as a last dewatering of anaerobically stabilized sludge. The anaerobic stabilization tank is mixed by pneumatic mixing with produced biogas by rotary compressors or alternatively by hydraulic mixing with a pump.
A biogas produced in anaerobic digester is accumulated in twomembrane gas holder. These membranes are made of high resistant polyester fabric coated with PVC. The biogas is preferably used as a fuel to produce electricity in cogeneration unit for the needs of plant and created heat is used to heat the sludge in anaerobic stabilization tank. The excess biogas is burned in a gas burner. Measurement and control of the main technological processes is ensured by an online measurement of ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, suspended solids, phosphate phosphorus, along with the dissolved oxygen concentration. The concentration of ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, dissolved oxygen and suspended solids is measured directly in activated sludge tank. The measurement of phosphate phosphorus is located at the outlet of WWTP.
